Your Security Connection Feb 17′ – Present

LEAD DESIGNER

With all the construction knowledge I had acquired over the years. I was the perfect candidate for designing and selling smart homes systems and AV integration. Here I worked with home owners on very high dollar projects to design and plan the AV setups for their homes. YSC offered turn key solutions for home owners that had purchased a home. Or remodels and retrofit situations.

Hearing out the customers needs and wants, then putting together an AV plan and proposal was among my daily tasks. Walking the job sites and suggesting different options to the homeowner, along with finding the right equipment for the project.  Here at YSC I learned about smart home software and was trained in programming on Control4. YSC was also one of the only AV integration company in the Bahamas. Having an office right on the island, and a team that could execute the work.  Our design team that included myself and two others, put together designs and proposals for customers that were having homes build on the island. And our BAH crew carried out the work.

YSC is a fully licensed electrical company. So in some projects we did both the high and low voltage work. Details are critical, so I worked with cabinet makers and the project managers on site to ensure each component was in the right place… at the right time. Already having years experience with home construction, I enjoyed being on the job site, over seeing that things get done right. I managed projects from start to finish, and brought on new customers for future installs.

Construction Project Manager  Jan 03′ – Mar 06′

The father of one of my best friends I went to school owned a construction company for new home construction. I was given the opportunity to oversee new builds with managed construction projects valued up to US$2 million. I reported to the director of construction with progress reports on site surveying. Working with each contractor to ensure plumbing, electrical, HVAC and framing were all done correctly in conjunction with each other. Directed and managed four team members. Reviewed and prepared contracts, permits, drafts, cost estimates and insurance. I submitting documents and permits to the county when needed. Allocated necessary project resources including subcontractors, suppliers and company labor. I ensured projects were executed according to approved time, cost estimates and quality. I helped created and develop a comparison system of company’s subcontractors for future projects. I fixed software related issues for key documents across the company. I also did some design work for small projects which had no plans. It is here that I learned the codes and requirements for building a home from scratch.

Sea Breeze Amusement Park

Park Engineer & Electrician  Mar 02′ – Feb 04′

Just before summer started in 2002, I wanted to learn more about how some of the rides and attractions worked at the local amusement park in our town. Sea Breeze Amusement Park at the time, was a small park and maybe a quarter the size of a Six Flags. I figured I would get a job running one of the rides so I could learn more. When I arrived for the interview with a number of others people that worked there every year, I was approached by security manager who was looking to recruit another officer to his team. He asked me my background, and when I told him I had experience in electrical and engineering, he quickly brought me to the head of construction in the park. It turns out they were building a new addition to the park called the “Soak Zone”. Just one of many additions they would be adding over the next few years. I was brought on the team and helped build and engineer the new attraction. Along with maintaining and fixing a lot of the existing rides. It was a great experience that give me a lot of engineering ideas for the future.

Time Warner Cable

Cable Technician   Jan 00′ – Feb 02′

I worked as a cable technician while I was in my 20’s. They trained me in pole gaffing, low voltage line drops, networking and much more. I did daily cable installs, high speed internet  and disconnects for non payment. I had so much experience in high voltage already, that learning about low voltage came easy.  The world was just getting into high demand for networking and internet. So I learned all I could and eventually got a little too fast at getting in and out of service calls.
